When Emily Adams Bode founded her eponymous label, Bode (pronounced Boh-dee), she did so with the intention of expressing a sentimentality for the past through her creations. The Twin Parakeet T-Shirt is inspired by a 1970s shirt. The embroidered birds are taken from an early American sampler, a type of sewing exercise used to teach and perfect needlework skills. Samplers have been standard practice for centuries but are particularly associated with early American craft.
